Melissa Rufty Chinoiserie

From The October 2010 issue of House Beautiful, I love this girl's bedroom by the wonderful interior designer Melissa Rufty, with her very clever use of gold faux bamboo end tables with colorful storage underneath. You are never too young for Chinoiserie!

Orange Chinoiserie from Marie Arden Pink Living

In response to my post this past Monday on Orange Chinoiserie, Marie of Marie Arden Pink Living sent me these beautiful pictures of her library set for lunch for Tablescape Thursday. I adore the wall color, the traditional and feminine style, all the Chinoiserie flourishes, and my favorite food sushi!

Orange Chinoiserie

My favorite paint company, Farrow & Ball, has come out with its new colors for 2011. My favorite is this incredibly dramatic Charlotte's Locks. This could be used to great effect in the Chinoiserie room. Here is some inspiration.

Below, paint a Chinese Chippendale chair orange or a bamboo chair orange as in this room by Heather Collins.

Paint the legs of a faux bamboo stool orange as here.

Paint your walls orange-this room is by Sara Story with wallpaper, but the same result could be achieved with stenciling or faux painting.

Paint one wall orange as below from Domicile Interior Design.

Or perhaps a ceiling as here by Lynn Amon.

Isn't this fun? It's an original 1979 Brunschwig & Fils Chinoiserie print ad I found on eBay for $9.95. Click it to enlarge. I received it in the mail yesterday. I plan to frame it myself in a gold bamboo frame. The temperature is headed for 74 degrees today in DC-hope everyone has a great long weekend.

A Lot With a Little

I'm sure that everyone has seen the fabulous bar of Jamie Meares of I Suwanee in the premier issue of High Gloss Magazine. With its wonderful use of Scalamandre's Zebra wallpaper, it highlights the way one can use a single roll of amazing wallpaper to great effect. Here are other wonderful ideas from Lonny below-above kitchen cabinets, in a hutch or armoire, framed in a vintage frame, or mounted on boards as art. On Etsy, eBay, and estate sales, one can often find a single vintage or designer roll perfect for one of these applications. Or splurge on one roll of high end paper that will become the focal point of the room.
